Donelda Dupont Circa 1959 |
![]() I would like to slip into your life for just a brief moment so I may introduce myself to you. My name is Donelda Louise Dupont and I was born in the small mining community of Red Lake, Ontario Canada, located on the shores of the Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. Latitude 51º 02' North and Longitude 93º 50' West in May 1955. My mother, Mary (Crowter) Dupont was a registered nurse at the Red Lake Memorial Hospital and the Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital located in Red Lake and the neighboring community of Cochenour for many years.. My father, Bruno Dupont was one of the first inhabitants of the community and had traveled from Mattawa, Quebec/Ontario to Red Lake in 1927 with his mother, brother and sister to join his father and older brother who where already there prospecting for gold. He grew up to become an electrician for the Campbell Red Lake Gold Mines located in Balmertown, another neighboring community. I was raised in a relatively modern home for the times as we were one of the first generations to be raised by dual career parents. So living in a double income family, my three brothers and myself really lacked for nothing. My folks also made certain we were always showered with love and respect and we were taught from a very early age that there was nothing more important and more valuable in life than the bond and love shared by family. My parents' greatest talent was their capability to see our potential and to encourage us to build on these strengths. My greatest strength was the ability to look at life through the eyes of a child as children observe, analyze and give us the most honest and clear view of the world around them and us. I personally would prefer to sit in a room filled with small innocent children than one filled with actors or educated people. Why, you might ask? Well the answer is quite simple, as the child is never false and he/she is intelligent beyond our understanding as the children have as yet not been taught the social môrés (manners) of living in Society. The problem in our modern world is that society steals their innocents and molds their thinking to the way they want them to think. My father believed children should not only be seen but heard as well. He always worried about the quiet child sitting alone in the corner, "should he not be ripping the place apart to see how it was built, is that child not well?", he would ask. If we want to understand this crazy, chaotic world we live in I believe we must start to respect and listen to the children. My father also taught us to have a tremendous sense of pride when it came to ourselves and our country. He told us to visit Canada from the Atlantic ocean on the east to the Pacific ocean on the west and the Arctic Ocean to the North. Learn about this great country we live in and feel a sense of pride, then if you so desire, visit other places around the world. The folks would take us on many adventurous enjoyable annual vacations. Each year two adults and four hyper excited children would be off on our Great Canadian Adventure. Keep in mind these were the days prior to air conditioning in ones vehicle. Patiently they would show us miles of flat rich prairie soils full of the wheat fields of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, the breathe taking mountains of British Columbia, the rich and wonderful French culture of Quebec and the grandeur of Expo 67. I still live in this wonderful country called" Canada" and even knowing there are many other beautiful countries and places around the world which other people are proud of and call home. I would not want to live anywhere else than Canada, where I call home. I would now like to share some of my family history with you, I do hope you enjoy my web site and through it I hope you will be able to feel the pride of the life and times of a truly proud Canadian family.
